5th Annual “Support Our Veterans Silent Auction” Benefits Hospitalized Veterans at Lebanon VA Medical Center
Freedom is never free. It is paid for by the sacrifices of our Veterans and their families. Their dedication to the security of our nation, like that of earlier generations, is what makes America truly the land of the free.
America’s newest combat veterans are returning home in record numbers. Facing battle injuries and emotional trauma, many of these veterans are confined to extended health care where loneliness is a way of life. Too often their families and friends live far away from the nearest VA facility or are too busy to visit on a regular basis. This is why Hershocks, Inc. of Harrisburg PA continues its efforts to honor those who have served our country by sponsoring the 5th Annual “Support Our Veterans Silent Auction” to benefit hospitalized veterans at the VA Medical Center located in Lebanon, PA.
The auction takes place during the Harrisburg Senators home baseball game on Friday, Aug. 22. Bids will be accepted during the game through the seventh inning. Top bidders can retrieve their items following the seventh inning stretch. (Please read below for the most up-to-date list of auction items.)
The silent auction takes place during the Harrisburg Senators home baseball game on Thursday, Aug. 30. Bids will be accepted during the game, and the names of the top bidders will be announced after the seventh inning. (Please read below for the most up-to-date list of auction items.)
All the money raised from this auction will be used to provide comfort items (i.e. toothbrushes, denture powder and brushes, combs, shaving cream, etc.) and services (televisions, wheelchairs, and recreation programs) to enhance the stay of hospitalized veterans. The federal government does not provide “comfort items and services”.
According to Chief of Voluntary Service Maureen M. Flynn, “Your donation will help raise funds that will allow us to provide extra amenities to the veterans that might otherwise not be available. They will be used towards providing regular and special activities (i.e. tickets and transportation to baseball games) and get-togethers for inpatients, as well as providing refreshments and kind words from volunteers serving outpatients at our Hospitality Bar.”
To date, Hershocks has raised $19,045.00 for the Lebanon VA Medical Center residents.
“Early bird” bids can also be placed by visiting Hershocks showroom, located at 3501 N. 6th Street in Harrisburg starting Monday, August 18. For more information, please call Hershocks, Inc. at 238-7331.
